つくりかけラボは、「五感でたのしむ」「素材にふれる」「コミュニケーションがはじまる」いずれかのテーマに沿った公開制作やワークショップを通して空間をつくり上げていく、参加・体験型のアーティストプロジェクトです。いつでも誰でも、空間が変化し続けるクリエイティブな「つくりかけ」を楽しみ、アートに関わることができる表現の場です。
今回は、’匂いと記憶のアーティスト’井上尚子さんをお迎えし、匂いによる個人の記憶が集積する空間「記憶の標本室」をつくります。目の見える人が受け取る情報の約8割が視覚によるものともいわれ、匂いや嗅覚については、日頃あまり深く考える機会はないかもしれません。一方で、嗅覚は個人の記憶と強く結びつき、それゆえ他者と共有することが難しい体験であるとされます。「記憶の標本室」では、会場に集められた個々の記憶とそれにまつわる匂いに触れることで、他者への想像力をたくましくし、同時に自分の内にある記憶へと心を向けることができるでしょう。
本プロジェクトでは、会期に先立ち、音楽ユニットVegetable Recordのお二人とともに美術館周辺及び館内をリサーチしました。その時に集められた匂いの記憶が音楽作品となって空間を演出します。可視化できない匂いと音のリズムを体感し、新たな発見をお楽しみください。
“Art Lab” is a participatory, hands-on artist project creating spaces through open production and workshops on any of the themes of “Enjoying with the five senses”, “Feeling and sensing materials”, and “The start of communication”.
In this project, Hisako Inoue, an artist of smell and memory, will create a “Memory Specimen Room,” a space where personal memories are evoked by smell brought together. It is said that about 80% of the information we process is visual, and we may not have the opportunity to think much about smell and olfaction on a daily basis. On the other hand, the sense of smell is strongly connected to personal memories, and is therefore an experience that is difficult to share with others. At the “Memory Specimen Room,” visitors will have the opportunity to experience individual memories and the smells associated with them, which will stimulate their empathy and imagination for others and, at the same time, help them to turn their minds toward their own inner memories.
Prior to the opening of this project, she collaborated with the music unit Vegetable Record to research the area surrounding and within the museum.
The memories of smells collected at that time will be turned into a musical piece that will be presented in the Art Lab’s space. We invite you to discover something new by experiencing the rhythms of smells and sounds that cannot be visualized.
